Borders and Panels
I recently took a class from my friend Vivian on quilt borders. Needed ideas for novelty prints that are too pretty to cut up. We learned a lot of techniques: wavy borders, checkerboard, and half square triangle variations to name a few.
Here's what I did with an African print from my stash. The masks are large and cutting them up was not an option. I saw a fabulous quilt by fellow guild member Mayota which served as my inspiration. Cut out one mask and treat it as applique (also called the "broidery purse" method). Now comes the hard part. The red and black polka dot is not enough of a border to balance the size of the mask. It needs a couple of borders. The next border may be flying geese. Stay tuned.
