Quilting 101 tips
These are my tips for new quilters:
1. Finish your first projects, mistakes and all. You will get better with each project.
2. Practice a 1/4 inch seam. Check your machine accessory kit for a 1/4 inch foot, or check your machine plate for a marking and place masking tape next to it so it is easy to see.
3. Sign and date your quilts.
One of the students made a quilt with simple squares. It's on her bed but not quilted. I suggest placing a decorative stitch in the center of each block or every other block to keep the batting from shifting. This is called "tying" a quilt. This would be a great opportunity to try out some of the embrodiery stitches on your sewing machine. Here's a sample using a flower embrodiery stitch.

I can see dating quilts. But signing them? At this stage, I'm not sure I want people to associate the finished product with me.
ReplyDeleteI understand (smile). In twenty years folks will want to know who made the quilt. You will look like a genius!
