Accurate 1/4 inch seams
Accurate 1/4 inch seams are crucial if the finished size of your quilt is important.
Here's a tried and true exercise to test the size of your seam:
Cut three strips, 2 1/2 inches by 5 inches each. Sew the strips together using a 1/4 inch seam. The resulting block should measure 5 inches.
This block is short by approximately 1/4 inch, so the block is not square. To rectify, either 1) trim a quarter inch from the lengthwise side, 2) discard the block and start again, or 3) get out the seam ripper and start over.
